Residential mental health and learning disability staffing FAQs

Where can you provide nurses to?

Our nurses have experience in a variety of residential settings to help support residents’ mental health and learning disabilities, including:

  • Residential homes for children or adults
  • Private or local authority care homes
Are your nurses trained in physical intervention and de-escalation techniques?

Our workers are skilled in helping individuals during crises, employing methods such as verbal de-escalation, distraction and breakaway strategies and physical intervention to ensure safety when needed.

Certified in the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA), they use their clinical expertise to defuse situations effectively.

What steps do you take to ensure the competency of your nurses?

The Scottish Nursing Guild recruits to standards which often exceed local regulations and guidelines. We only accept agency workers of the highest calibre, with just 20% of applicants making the cut.

Our nurses are registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and our HCAs are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). Our staff must pass enhanced Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) checks before we hire them to ensure that they can work with children and protected adults.

What is the cost of your staffing service?

Our residential mental health and learning disability staffing is tailored to meet your organisation’s unique needs. Various factors will affect the cost of our services when arranging nurses and HCAs through us, including:

  • How many nurses and HCAs you need
  • The amount of time that you require our staff for
